Arbroath or Aberbrothock (Obair Bhrothaig) is a very active and friendly town which is located on the North Sea coast, around 16 miles North East of Dundee and 45 miles South West of Aberdeen. Arbroath was once a royal burgh and is the largest town in the county of Angus in Scotland.
Arbroath has a population of just over 20,000. It dates back to the Pictish period and was a small village until Arbroath Abbey started being built in 1178. Arbroath grew substantially, especially during the Industrial Revolution, due to the rapid growth of the jute industry.
The new harbour in Arbroath was built in 1839, by the 1900s it was one of the largest fishing ports in the whole of Scotland.
